Guidelines for Pin Craft
|
|
| The illustration shows a basic egg form being covered with
ribbon and sequins. It is good practise to draw an approximate outline of
any design you wish to make. In this instance I have simply quartered the
egg by using two pieces of ribbon, pinned off at the top and secured at
the base. |
 |
| Simply build your sequin design by filling in the space
between the ribbon. Work in vertical lines, either top to bottom, or
reverse. A smoother appearance is achieved by going bottom to top. Either
use flat sequins, or cupped sequins with the cup facing down. Ensure that
you have a slight overlap of pins over the ribbon, this will serve to both
anchor the ribbon, and fully cover the polystyrene. You may then wish to
add relief to the egg by inverting the cup sequins so the cup faces
upwards, and or threading a bead onto the pin prior to pinning the sequin. |
 |
| Here the egg has been marked in quarters with a pencil line.
The egg was then covered in cup sequins with the cups facing down,
ensuring that the pencil line was always left just visible. After the
sequins were added, two lengths of braiding were pinned to the egg, using
standard pins in-between the knots and threading a bead on the pins to
secure the knots to the egg. A thin ribbon hanger was added to the top
using a filigree cap. Alternatively a simple stand can be made using
several beads threaded on four pins, and these pinned at an angle to the
base to make a stand. You can use pearl headed pins rather than threading
beads on pins, and try bugle beads on a pear headed pin for a stand |
 |
| The illustration to the right shows a simple parcel, made
using a drum polystyrene shape, covered with four lengths of ribbon,
folded and secured at the top to make a bow. The spaces between the ribbon
can then be filled in using sequins. |

 | Hints and Tips
 | Always use a Thimble, for pin pushing |
 | If you have difficulty inserting a pin. Pull it out, and try it
again in a slightly different position and different insertion
angle |
 | Once completed, go over your creation with a thimble to ensure
all pins are in fully |
