WHAT TO DO

Preparation:

Protect your working area with plastic sheeting.

bullet

Avoid as much sunlight as possible in your working area.

bullet

Select a working area that will allow you easy access to direct sunlight when ready.

bullet

Use either a large Paint Brush or Sponge for paint application.

bullet

Lightly moisten your fabric prior to applying Setacolor Soleil.

bullet

Shake the Bottle well before use.

bullet

Setacolor Soleil is READY TO USE. No thinning is required.

Fixing:

Once the material is dry.

Remove any masks, salt, knots etc.

Iron the material on the reverse side for 3-5 minutes

Ensure the Iron is set to COTTON

Pebeo Setacolor Soleil Hints and Tips
bulletWhat Type of Materials to use
bulletAs Setacolor Soleil is Transparent, the choice of a light coloured fabric is essential.
bulletFor best results use a natural fibre such as cotton rather than a synthetic fibre.
bulletWashing the Material Prior to applying Colour.
bulletIt is very important to wash the fabric prior to applying the colour. This ensures that all dressings to the fabric have been removed.
bulletWashing the material after fixing Setacolor Soleil Colours.
bulletOnce the fabric has been fixed, the material can be washed by:
bulletHand Washing
bulletMachine Washing at 40 Deg C (100 Deg F)
bulletDry Cleaning
bulletCleaning of Paint Brushes and Accessories
bulletBefore the paint has Dried, simply rinse your tools well in soapy water.
bulletSelecting Masks
bulletYou can make your own masks using:
bulletPlastic cut-outs
bulletLeaves

bulletIn fact just about anything your imagination will allow.
bulletPainting a T-Shirt
bulletSlide a plastic bag, or thick piece of card inside the T-Shirt to ensure that you decorate only one side at a time.

bulletPAINTING WITH THE SUN
bulletA particularly simply technique, giving stunning techniques.
bulletThis process has been used throughout the South Sea Islands of the Pacific to decorate Sarongs or Pareos.
bulletSetacolor will react to Sunlight.
bulletSelect some interesting shapes for your design, such as:
bulletFlowers
bulletLeaves
bulletNetting
bulletFeathers
bulletPre-cut cardboard shapes
 
bulletGently stretch the fabric over a frame, or spread out on the ground, on plastic sheeting away from direct sunlight
bulletSponge dye or paint the fabric with Setacolor Soleil.
bulletIf you prefer. Dye the fabric in a bath of Soleil, wringing out excess dye before spreading.
bulletScatter the shapes over the fabric.
bulletOnce you are happy with the design. Expose the material to sunlight.
bulletIt is important that the material is not exposed to direct sunlight prior to assembling the design items on the fabric.
bulletTo add extra effect, sprinkle course salt over the fabric, combining both Heliographic and Salt techniques.
bulletIn the absence of sunlight, exposure to infra-red light or Sunlamp.
bulletTo fix: set the iron temperature according to COTTON. Iron the reverse of the fabric for 3 to 5 minutes.
bulletWashable 48 hours after fixing

Painting with the SUN Pebeo Setacolor Soleil

bulletSalt Technique
bulletLightly dampen your chosen fabric with water.
bulletApply the Setacolor Soleil to the fabric using a sponge or large paint brush
bulletSprinkle the fabric surface (painted side) with a dry course salt while the fabric is wet.
bulletAllow to dry.
bulletBrush or dust off the salt.
bulletThe salt may be dried and stored for further craft use.
bulletTo fix: set the iron temperature according to fabric type. Iron the revere of the fabric for 3 to 5 minutes.
bulletWashable 48hours after fixing
bullet 

Salt Technique - Painting with the Sun

bulletFolds and Knots
bulletFold and Knot your material
bulletSoak either all or part of your fabric in the colour or colours of your choice.
bulletLeave for at least 24 hours.
bulletThe design will depend upon the way you have folded and knotted your material
bulletHere are some ides to try:
bulletScrew fabric into a ball and tie up with several elastic bands.
bulletChose a point from which you can twist your material, then tie it with elastic bands.
bulletRoll or crumple your material then tie it up.
